Health insurance covers the costs of psychological services for children under 18 years old if there is a referral from either a diagnostic team or a physician. The reference is up to ten appointments and valid for six months from the first treatment session. The relevant psychologist must work in accordance with the contract between the Icelandic Health Insurance (Sjúkratryggingar) and the Psychiatric Association of Iceland.
To request a referral, you can book an appointment with a general practitioner. Children under the age of 18 pay no entrance fee during daytime hours for coming to a health center.
